Shooting with The Daily Show
2009
Aasif Mandvi was trying to stay warm and work his iPhone. Call time was 8AM and luckily the crew from the Daily Show met our 385 talent right outside our office doors. How cool is that!? We quickly decided that we could shoot part of the segment right around the corner. With a couple of hand held cameras, a mic boom and director we were off and running. For me, I was literally running and jumping which kept me warm on this brisk morning shoot.
The first part of the shoot was short and sweet. What you learn is that you have to take shoot after shoot in order to catch all the angles you may want to use in post production. I asked Aasif if he was a comedian by trade but was surprised to learn that he was an actor that had landed this great gig. And what a great gig it is. The Daily Show which I watch daily does some of the best work at poking fun at politicians, people, and current events.
The Daily team had arrived the night before and were up for the 8:00 call. But they’ve got it hard. After our afternoon shoot the crew was headed out to their shoot in Arizona tomorrow morning.
I really feel like I can’t say much about the sketch because really, don’t you want to see it when it airs? Ian the producer tells me it’ll be about 3 weeks.
